~Please Lord~
Dear Lord, please let school be out!
Then the whole wide world will say hurray in one big shout
But even More please let school be Banned,
So we can sit here being fanned.
Oh lord please just let school be banned!
OH please let it just be forbidden!
And all the school books hidden.
Just dear Lord just let this one pray be given,
Then let our heart be driven.
Oh Lord please just let school be forbidden!

bomb threat
sitting in class
baking some food
when we were told
to leave the school
we had to go
on to the track
away from the school
and to not look back
a bomb threat was called
into the school
who would do this
they must be a fool
they searched the school
with stomachs in knots
while we watched anxiously
as it started getting hot
they thought they found it
behind the bleachers
but it was a false alarm
according to the teachers
a lot of the students
are scared to go back
they didn't even want
to leave the track
now that we're in
all still shaking
thinking to ourselves
if they were mistaking
what if it was real
and it happens again
the school would blow up
and that'd be the end
now it's the next day
students still in a roar
about the bomb threat
that opened the door
it made us realize
that the worse could happen
even in a small town
just like Washington
even small towns
can cause a big scandal
just remember not to panic
so you can handle.

Revolt 25 June 2009
Bursts of noise
officials in full school uniform enter
excitement as we
hug and laugh
Im wearing Tiaans track suit
his school cap his blazer
he wears himself
Im bursting with delight
so many people
commemorating 1976 when
South Africans refused
to go to school
I cant wait to run through
the building from floor one
to ten to check on everyone
see what the others
have done
Sylvia looks fantastic in
her school gear, Karen will soon
be here and the day will really
begin no work is the general cry
that is what they did in 1976
we have to stick to the spirit
of their revolt that dismantled
apartheid and
bought freedom for all!
25 June 2009 - Department Arts and Culture
commemorates the 1976 school protests
against apartheid in South Africa.

Summer Vacation
It's sumertime,
School vacation has begun,
Time for children to play,
And have fun in the sun.
Now the children
Are out of school,
There are trees to climb,
Swimming in the pool.
Time to spend
With special friends.
Seems they're on the go
Until the days end.
But when summer vacation
Is finally through,
It's time to hit the books
And return to school.
