Missing In Action
My mother
perceived to be a caring soul by the family
once received a telegram
from one of the services
marked urgent
caring not to think
about what it might contain
or inform her of
she placed it in a stack
with everything else left
unwashed
unread
unpaid
but filed neatly away in or on top of her desk
and to this day.....having never opened it
she still doesn't know
that her soldier son is missing____

Old Fart
Where is the beauty in being old
Your teeth grow long as gums grow short
Your back curves as your hair straightens
and looking good becomes more like work...
Then there is the other side of life....
Being beautiful without having to do anything
I hear a lot of people say...'Oh what a beautiful baby.'
or 'All babies are cute.' and for the most part
this is true....
I guess ugly must come with age....

Romeo, Oh Romeo, Juliet My Juliet
The first few days of your death
begin to sink in, just about the time
you start to think.... maybe this is nothing
more than a very silly dream
or a new virtual reality series about me
....complete with creepy crawly things
and a very bad case of halitosis___
The first few days of your death
your breath isn't the only thing that stinks
your bowels bloat and your bladder floats
around your belling in a search for land
the skin on your extremities loosens
as your eyes sink into your gelled filled head
and the wound...which you carved
in your chest isn't healing___
That's when you find your starting to believe
all those people who had said
'It is too late for goodbyes, when you're dead....'

*John Doe 3: 16
In the Darkness
Alone
Under the investigation
Of
One
100watt bulb
Spying on me
From above
Standing
Truth to Power
Face to Face
With a mirror from my past
I trade my sanity
For the insanity of the moment
My flask drained of
Holy water
An empty voice on the P.A. declares
Once and for all
God has left the building
