A River Poem
Inside the river are
the sky, the cloud, and the sun.
In my hands bowl is the river.
If I throw up my hands,
the river spills in drops, scattering
sky, cloud, and sun all oer me.
From my hands bowl, if I drink
the river, then within me,
the sun, the cloud, and the sky.
Tell me, who is in who?
Kannada poem by Mamta.G.Sagar translated by Chitra Panikker with the poet.

The Swing of Desire
On my cheek rests
the shadow of a ear-drop,
and from here to there
swings my desire.
Im the fresh moist fragrance
which blooms in the forest;
Im the smell of the new earth
after the first rain; when I breath,
with each play of breadth,
all over me,
the spread of pleasure.
And for me, slowly,
the intoxication:
like Im floating in a dream.
Drops of sweat on my fore head.
This has happened
many a times.

Hide and Seek
a leaf from the tree
gliding
sliding
swinging
like a kite caressing the wind
now a boat on the river
along with colourful fish
a green flash on the
shining golden water
moved hurriedly
disappeared with the flow
water doesnt know
air doesnt know
tree doesnt know
fish dont know
this game of hide and seek.

My Mother
She lifts her head and looks up,
the skies light up entirely;
the clouds float in her eyes.
When her eyes are shut,
the skies grow all dark,
clouds break, and all over,
the spate of sadness.
