A Silver Sea

The sunshine sparkled on a silver sea,
I sat and watched some children on the sand,
I took some time to sit and simply, be,
I needed time alone, you understand?

The ocean merged into the sky above,
The children cast some shadows on the shore,
And though alone I feel the peace and love,
The way I have so many times before,

I watched a couple walking hand in hand,
Oblivious to others who may see,
An intimate embrace on golden sand,
Delighting in their tender company,

The sunshine sparkled on a silver sea,
And I had never ever felt so free.

Are You Asleep?

I spend my time,
When you are gone,
Just listening,
To a favourite song,
Or gazing somewhere,
Up above,
Or write a sonnet,
Words of love,
They tumble, tortured,
From the sky,
I’m feeling low,
And feeling high,
Distracted,
That’s the way to be,
I watch a movie,
On TV,
I catch the news,
On channel ten,
Storm and tempest,
Strike again,
So difficult,
To contemplate,
They’re queuing up,
At Heaven’s Gate,
I sit a while,
Commiserate,
And say a prayer,
It’s getting late,
And thankful now,
For you and me,
Discard the scene,
That’s on T.V.
And in the quiet,
Time to weep,
Where are you now?
Are you asleep?

Hazy

I’m feeling slightly lazy,
And not a little hazy,
I should be getting on,
And doing things,
But I really can’t be bothered,
With the tedium I’m offered,
And I’m happy to be doing,
My own thing.

I can’t be bothered talking,
And I tried my hand at walking,
But I met so many people,
On the way,
And they spoke about the weather,
The latest on Big Brother,
Excuses made,
I make my getaway.

I’m happy in seclusion,
Unwelcome, their intrusion,
I need to be alone,
Just for today,
So I’m home alone, contented,
Watch a movie that I’ve rented,
And the company can wait,
Another day.

Tomorrow will be brighter,
My spirit will be lighter,
I’ll be happy just to listen,
To their woes,
In the meantime I’ll aspire,
To get a little higher,
But I’m lazy and I’m hazy,
And it shows.

Driftwood

We built a bonfire on the beach,
A fire to keep us warm,
You put your arms around me,
And we watched the setting sun.

My head upon your shoulder,
Your breath upon my skin,
The moment overwhelming,
I couldn’t take it in.

We sat in silence, listening,
Bathed in a golden glow,
The sun high in the sky above,
The bonfire: far below.

And when the sun had left us,
And vanished for the night,
We fed the flames with driftwood,
And watched the birds take flight.
