  389.

Stuck

He is stuck
Behind the wall
Between the fire place
And the brick facade
There is nothing to be done
A fatal falling
From the top of the roof
Down through the opening
Hell’s deadly crevice
No escape
Hear him clawing
Desperate and alone
There is no savior
No light to break the darkness
Only the waiting
Remains
Hours then minutes and seconds of breath
Wings slap in impotence
Weakly raging
Life’s brutal passing
Death’s quiet embrace.

Sub-Colonel Burb

Ok, troops, now listen up.
See that grocery store over there?
We’ve got orders from the top brass to take it at all costs.
It sure as hell isn’t going to be easy.
They have clerks over there who can’t even spell, let alone work a cash register.
But remember, we have one of the finest assault weapons this army has ever seen:
The all-terrain vehicle,
What we affectionately call
“Our little SUV.”
So hop to it! Pile in! On the double!
We’re going to open up the throttle on this baby and make a beeline
For the parking lot.
And woe be to the Geo who gets in our way.
Strap yourselves in, kids. Here we go.
CHARGE! ! ! !

Sunblock

Truths cannot be denied without consequence
Wounds fester from within

Until the body, crippled and diseased
Breaks

A torrent of anguish released
Upon an unwitting world.

Sunrise At Garibaldi

The timbers rise out of the bay
On a clouded, sunlit morning
Reflection’s pier in the water
An old weather-worn shack
Five white windows to see the day
The seagull dips and glides
Slow-motion

This photograph makes
A stop of time

I want to get off
Walk the platform
Drop my line in the water
And wait
Watch, the sun’s slow
Mount from valley to crest, hear
The wind telling tales:
Of wise old men
And the daunting sea.
