Song for Marty (A Tribute to Marty Robbins)
The cowboy poet
Still sings
His storied melodies round a flickering fire
On the wide open range
Of the midnight sky.
And sometimes when the stars are out
You can hear his lilting voice
Carried on the wind
He tells of roundups long ago
Bandits and outlaws
Rugged men who tamed the West
Places like Tombstone and Laredo
And the west Texas town of El Paso
Where young lovers bid farewell.
Farewell to you, old friend.
Farewell.
Well keep some coffee on the stove
And a warm place by the fire
And when youre cold and feeling lonesome
From a long and dusty ride
Take off your boots and rest awhile
And sing a song or two.

Spider Man
He keeps his ego in the garage
And pampers it with the utmost attention.
Sometimes, on a lazy afternoon
He wheels it onto the driveway to impress the chicks.
They hop in, go for a ride and
Get turned on by the magnitude of its power.
The seductive smell of the leather interior
Is so intoxicating
They often consent to a little action in the back seat.
It isnt until he gets out and stands in the broad light of day
That they realize what a jerk he is.
But by then its too late.

Spider's Web
A perfect creation
Knit between branch and oak leaf
Of glistening silken line
Catching light
Pure testimony, this ancient wisdom
Living locket
Dangled from a strand of pearl
The nape of the universe
Holds this precious life
Jewel
In wait for the unwary
Sweet kiss and beautiful death.

Split Second
The push of that hard hand propels me down
My knees scrape the ground
The knots tight upon my wrists
I wait
Feel him there behind me
The cold aim of the weapon
Impossible to understand
A split second before the blast
Mans inhumanity to man
God if you be
Grant me the courage
To die with
Dignity.
