Pause
Halfway across the road
Time stopped
The ninth life spent
Fur blowing in the wake of a passing car
The last twitching of a whisker
Someones
Broken heart.

Peeking Behind Door Number 2
Sluggo said to me
In his erudite way
F_ _ _ you.
Then he punched my face
Through the wall
Old Joe, the bartender
Laughed
Gave the galoot another
Beer
Compliments of the house
Me, I rearranged my nose
Stuck my pennies
Back in my loafers
Limped across the street
To more comfortable
Confines
Hanging plants and steaming
Cappuccino
With just a hint of cinnamon.

Peter Pan
When he took the drink from the bottle
Time stopped
Just out of high school
Nurse for a broken heart
He cuddled with the loss
Drugged stupor of a cold floor dream
Whatever he could have been
Long forgotten
In the pass of years
Decades
Marriage, divorce
Children grown and leaving
At 50,60 you see him there still
Schoolboy romancer
Flipping burgers for a pocketful of
Change
Nothing changed, stuck
In a place that doesnt exist
Not then, not now, nevermore
Never
More.

Pick-Up Line #342
Hey, baby,
Id like to stick my needle in your balloon
And show you what life is all about.
