Over the Hill
In middle age
you find
the bridges are burned
theres no going back
a long climb to the top
of a lonely hill
the sharp descent is
quick and foreboding
the road disappearing
in a thicket of lost hope
a dust of memory
choking back
tears.

Padded Cell
little people
are Instituted
for the sole purpose of
playing Politics
Egos spinning like tops in
turvy worlds
knocking down the
pins of spirit
that hold the thing
together
at least
thats the way
it seems
to the tenured toe
that holds me.

Painting an Inch Thick
The paint on my face is peeling
Too long without a fresh coat to
Cover up the blemish of mistaken
identity
People will see through
The raw, exposed grain of flesh
Much too real for
Aluminum-sided strangers
Weathering storms in happy hamlets
Hailing golf balls bouncing off
Simulated walls, chuting through
Spidered spouts of infantile
Disregard.

Palomino (haiku)
Palomino hooves
fly across the barren plain
warrior's heart unbridled
