Shocking
Dip your finger in the blood of
Corpses
Maybe then youll understand
What it is
In the dark, horrific slash of paint
The brutal assault of brush on canvas
Hes trying, in the desperate hours of
Rise to set
To say.

Squirrelly Fellow
My teeth are chipped like a monk
Inside my face
I eat nuts and leaves and grass and trees
And bury the choicest morsels for safekeeping
I scamper in and out of dark, wet holes
Up and down dead trunks and fallen limbs
Looking for the shelter of a warm, embracing burrow
And I cant understand
(Perhaps you might explain why)
Chicks find me so unattractive.

Still Waters
When you dig beneath the surface of people
It seems
Each individual has a little bit to offer
A spring of self to be tapped
On his or her own limited terms.
Insofar as your needs and wants
Coincide
There may be
A merging of like tributaries
Flowing in the same direction.
But only one or two
If youre lucky
Will open the deepest channels of
Themselves
Stay the course through the
Rapids that treacherously lie in wait
The blast of stone and spray
A lifetime commitment
To see the end and the beginning
The return of the rain to the cloud in the sky
The vastness of an ocean
Serene in the wave and drift
...of time.

Stuffy Nose
The poet learned his trade
In English Class, at University
Stuck gobbledygookus up his nose
and sneezed
Oh my said the teacher
Gazing at the wordy scramble dribbling
...across the page
How scintillating and inspiring!
And so impossibly obscure!
Im having a coffee klatch this evening.
Would you care to attend?
