Coffee and Cream
Love should not be commonplace
Love should be bold
Love should reach out and touch
And be there always to comfort and hold
Love shoud feel tender and soft
and it should guide and protect
and feel like a soft hand of comfort
and be based upon care and respect
Love should not boast or seek an upper hand
Love should shed a tear and always seek to understand
Love should be humble and not of greed
Love should show compassion in time of need
Love should be expressed often and with soft touch
Love should take time and not rush
Love should tickle inside and years later still make you blush
Love should be more lasting than a crush
Love is the way I imagine my hands caressing your face
and the feel of your satin, your skin and your lace
and the feeling in my heart that I don't wish to run from or chase
love is my only dream, my only destinaton, my only place
When I think of love...I shed a tear and call out your name
because without you, it could never be the same
Love should be two hearts that cling together as one in the same
and it feels suddenly more than just an empty game
And if love is just imagination of a dream
I'm in it is seems
and only you can set me free
and be the coffee for my cream

DOROTHY DAY
Dorothy Day
Dorothy Day
I heard your story today
I'm glad it came my way
You had a heart
for the downtrodden
and the sad
that made up in some way
for the unhappiness you had
and your story made me glad
Dorothy Day
Dorothy Day
Some say you were a saint
Some bishops and cardinals
say you ain't
But a kinder heart toward others
I could not imagine or dream up
lest a harsher view of you some paint
You had an abortion once
perhaps the knock against you
You once used to live life so high
and perhaps it was that too
but, then one day
you must have asked deeper questions
and wondered WHY?
many tears you surely did cry
and your search led you to the sky
and God it seemed he did forgive and understand
and his hopes for you became your command
Of you I'm sure he was so proud
not of where you were
but of what you became
So I felt privlidged to learn your name
and to me you personify the meaning of a saint
I could not really understand their complaint
but anyway I don't think you'd care
your mission was your heart and kindness
to share and not to earn yourself a name
or to seek accolades or fame

I heard your story today
I'm glad it came my way
I promise to say a prayer for your soul
when I go to church to pray
because what you did meant something
and that something endures 'till this day

Friendship (senryu)
Friendship is a gift
An open ended treasure
that makes two hearts smile

Friendship Sweet
On a cloudy Fall day
friendship and care are reminders of sunshine
and warm the heart
