  273.

Silent prayers

Mental prayers rise in the air,
Relieve distress and care,
Unseen but real,
Power to heal.

Simple stuff

i like the simple things
life has to offer.
ordinary pleasures
that I don't have to spend for.

a woodpecker pecking away
in the huge catalpa tree,
music to my ears
and there's no admission fee!

sleeping late,
breakfast toast and jam,
coffee too,
talking with my mate.

yellow and purple backyard flowers,
reading in our patio by the hour.

mowing, edging the lawn,
hard work that feels good,
satisfied when the task is done.

shooting hoops with vince and jared,
my next door neighbor kids,
frisbee with kendra, play that's shared.

when life gets difficult, rough,
i try to remember -
the simple stuff is enough!

  275.

sister pals

vinnie and emily
sister pals

ordinary looking
yet internally fair

funny, irreverent
sister pals
i love those
dickinson gals

smart as a whip
God-natured as well
they sang together
the darkness
surrendered and fell

alive today
they sing in my soul
with Jesus and God
watching, working
they all make me whole

forgotten saints
present and past
unknown, perhaps despised
the first shall be last

on we go, onward
the past is past

their beauty will quietly last

  276.

Sold on skin cream

you sold me you
you did it well
sales girl
so pretty
so friendly
so articulate
and interested
in my dry skin

i bought your time -
about ten or fifteen minutes -
and your smiles
and personality
for about $35

the dead sea cream
was worth about $5
$40 in all

i was a temporary fool
you took me to 'school'
but you sold your soul
for money, honey

p.s.
i tossed the gritty dead skin 'cream'
your clever, seductive scheme
