  193.

judy

judy was my fun sister
encouraging
smart, creative, adventurous
encouraged me to draw
so good at it herself

i always wished she had
become a painter
and just drew more

well maybe someday
in heaven
we'll share a studio
and make up for lost time

'art in heaven'!
yes i hope so

we'll be prolific, sis
and make up
for all we missed

until then,
love will always be
now
and in eternity

  194.

judy and elaine

judy and elaine
my loving sisters
dead, now alive
in relief heaven
spirit bee-hive
may they always thrive

  195.

Killing hell

thru successive centuries
technology improves
while war and crime
depressingly continues

warfare and death have now 'advanced'
bombs and bullets, no more spear and lance
we kill so much better, aren't we great?
efficiently destroying those we hate

peace within self is often elusive
but peace between enemies
national big and individual small
is rare to find - if ever at all

it's the human condition
ingenious and skilled
applying our technology
so millions are killed

we humans solve
almost any practical problem
but when it comes to getting along
don't talk - just shoot 'em!

war and crime 'sophistication'
efficient, brutal annihilation
in the dark passage of time
is there a solution - and who's to blame?

religion is called to quiet the storm
but strident religions often start the harm
only when peace rules inside most if not all
will this world escape from the killing hell

  196.

late fall leaves

yellow

a few remaining
sun-transparent leaves
free for the seeing
out my apartment window

the birch is quietly undressing
for winter

its skinny arms and hands
reaching to the sky
a day later
to catch oregon snowflakes

'be still'
the tree tells me
'and know that i am evidence
there is a magical Creator'
who is beauty
and wonder
and mystery
always giving
pleasure to our senses

the best in life is free
from our amazing 'Thee'
