  65.

Sheltered Love

As my dreams are just reflections
Of the little love we knew,
I shall always be contented
As I always dream of you.

Though your love you may have hidden
In the shadows of your mind.
My memory holds it closely
So it's not so hard to find.

I take my love out every day
Just as all true lovers do.
For still I cling to fading hope,
That your love may still come through.

And if you find this oh so strange
Since you keep us far apart;
Please know my love is sheltered still
In a castle called your heart.

  66.

Silent Love

I knew it then, for I could tell.
Twas Silent Love in which I fell.

A painful choice for Heaven's sake.
And one no man would like to make.

But I was torn in part, you see.
By beauty, charm, and destiny.

I gathered up and off I went.
As if compelled to my torment.

And greeting there, my love confessed.
I made a simple child's request.

But thinking now of her and me,
I guess it was as meant to be.

A love the angels sing in song.
It's in such love I do belong.

A timeless chord from up above.
A sanctified and Silent Love.

  67.

So Long, Yet Far Away (M. V.)

I've often told of her before
And I will tell thee now.
That Autumn many years ago;
It lingers still, somehow.

In glancing up again I saw
The girl I'd seen before.
A maiden dark I still recall,
Too special to ignore.

I stood, this time, not far away.
She seldom came so near.
I hoped and prayed she'd notice me.
Why was I gripped with fear?

She wore a cloth of simple spin.
Twas not much I confess.
It dawned on me, as she approached,
I thought of her no less.

The closer to her sphere I drew,
The nearer more she came;
I realized and then could tell,
True love, was sure to blame.

She pushed her glasses on her nose,
So better she might see.
Then smiled a most delightful grin;
And looked so sweet at me.

I couldn't speak a word back then.
She mesmerized you know.
I doubt if she could comprehend
How much I loved her so.

She said, ' Hello ', and touched my arm
And winked a little too;
Then turned her head and stroked her hair,
The way girls like to do.

My eyes met hers, and there they are;
As ever they have stayed.
I wondered then, as I do now.
What mistake had I made?

She talked as though she knew me well,
Though we'd met but once before.
Twas then I knew, this love was doomed.
I'd lost at love, once more.

She said she couldn't stay too long.
She had to meet someone.
As if to make it, oh so clear;
I'd never be the one.

She didn't have to bother though,
I knew it anyway.
Another love, was mine to keep;
So long, yet far away.

  68.

Sojourn

The music lingered soft and low.
I barely heard it play.
This was how I liked it now,
The mode I chose each day.

I just reclined my favorite chair
And closed my eyes to rest.
The mode was sure to make me sleep,
My hands across my chest.

Soon I drifted far away,
It must have been quite deep.
It sure seemed just as real to me,
This strange and storied sleep.

I found myself there once again,
A place of long ago.
With all the ones I knew quite well,
I'd often wished it so.

There they were with me at school,
Just playing all around.
They laughed and chased each other still
And made their childhood sound.

Then suddenly, the school was gone.
We all were in a field.
The joy I felt at being there
Could hardly be concealed.

We all were young, it seemed as though
We had not aged a day.
I thought that I might just join in;
And run, and chase, and play.

Then suddenly, I saw my girl,
The one for which I yearn.
Just as she was so long ago.
The cause of this sojourn.

She smiled and as it is my fate,
She had to fade away.
I then awoke, and oh so sad;
For I had wished to stay.

I'll try again another day,
Sometimes it works quite well.
Perhaps, someday, I won't return.
Now that's a tale to tell!

So if you hear I went to sleep
And never then awoke.
Remember what I said today,
Or take it for a joke.

You'll sure know where I just might be.
So join me, if you dare.
I think you might enjoy yourself.
I'll wait for you back there.
