Like Many More
Like many more I have too big an ego I too am shackled by conceit and pride
And I too have not learned much from living though time is definitely not on my side
Some prophets still claim that the meek the Earth will inherit if this be so what chance is there for me
For one who has not learned much from living to happiness could never hold the key.
Like me too many too fond of their own selves and an egoless
person I've yet to meet
And the down to earth person is a rare species a common human frailty self conceit
If there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'd like to return as a dog maybe
A faithful dog who is loved by his master and of any sort of ego I'd feel free.
Each time I attend gatherings and parties big egos all around me I can see
And every one is blowing their own trumpet the same old story I, myself and me
They have me on the defence with some of their questions such as for a living what sort of work do you do?
I feel like telling them mind their own business what I do with my life should not matter to you.
I am aware I have too big an ego and our egos get the better of us all
And there is so much truth in the saying that pride it always comes before a fall
I envy other creatures their pure innocence it is not for ego that the songbird sing
But in the breeding Season to defend his borders and that to me seems such a natural thing.
Like many more I have too big an ego a fact of life of which I should not lie
And far too many mop heads like me out there who only think of me, myself and I
In Third World Countries people dying of hunger and there is war that gives rise to death and misery and pain
And here am I one with a monster ego like so many others out for my own gain.

Like Many The Very Thought Of Death
Like many the very thought of death I fear
Yet for me with each ticks of the clock that moment draws near
The moment when the last life sustaining breath of air I will draw
To be born to die that is Nature's law
Is this what life's about to be born to die
Though religious people are convinced the life herafter is not based on a lie
They belive that in God's Paradise they will live in eternal happiness
If on Earth by their devotion the supreme one they impress
And what hope for me a sort of infidel
Who does not believe in a heaven or a hell
Most religious people would only foresee
A hereafter of unhappiness for one such as me
But like the words in the song whatever will be will be
And hell cannot be much worse than Earthly poverty.

Like Mavis The Dancer
Some people seem to get better like the taste of good wine
And even in old age they look and feel fine
And like 'tis said of age it can only be a state of mind
And in an ageing person one young at heart you can find
Like Mavis the Dancer she is eighty three
Don't tell her she's old with you she won't agree
She is happy and cheerful and bubbly and bright
And at the bowling club rooms on saturday she dances all night
The praises of Mavis they ought to be sung
Her hair silver grey but in her heart she feels young
Her great grand-children teenagers her husband dead for years
But for the past she does not have any tears
At the bowling club rooms she does dance and sing
She does make a case for age is a relative thing

Like Most
Like most for every friend you have you surely have a foe
And like most the ups and downs of life you too have come to know
And it would seem from your address and your side of the town
For you tis a stiff uphill climb to success and renown,
Like most for you no easy pay you struggle to survive
And only your great lust for life is keeping you alive
You've had to cope with tragedy but your cross you bravely bear
And despite the hard times you've been through you somehow hang in there,
You may be one of many but in ways you are quite rare
For you refuse to feel suicidal in your moments of despair
Nothing easy ever in life has come your way
And may the last day be the hardest day you have been known to say
Like most life for you is a battle but you refuse to give in
But a wise one once said that every loss is one nearer to a win.
