For Anne

I knew her by her name and email address only and little else of her i seem to know
Yet through her poems i feel i know her better and her stature as a poetess only grow
She came into my life for a brief while only and people to my life just come and go
And i have met and farewelled many people since i left where the Finnow waters flow.

Compared to her in me there is much darkness her soul is full of goodness and of light
She is a decent and god fearing person and she lives by the moral book of right
I lost god when i was a little fellow a christian nun she beat him out of me
Suppose my god back then thought me unworthy and not entitled to his sympathy.

We are from different world's that is obvious and we look at life through very different eyes
Her soul is full of goodness and of sunshine of singing birds and fair hued butterflies
Compared to her's my soul is clouded over like moonless sky on a bleak winter's night
Without god on your side life is much harder and for survival it's an uphill fight.

I knew her by her name and email only and her i never did meet face to face
But i know that she is a decent person a credit to her kin and to her race
Her emails to me i found quite inspiring and for a while she had me walking tall
And her words of kindness will not be forgotten and she is one i always will recall.

For As Long As

We are always being compared to others but why does this have to be
That person is better than I am because of a Uni degree
I was the dunce of the class-room if not the dunce of the school
Does this mean till death I must carry with me the tag of the fool?

Some people can be so ignorant and with their words be very cruel
And feel they are better than others as one of the class born to rule
Yet I have known uneducated people who have been wise in their way
And I could sense the pearls of wisdom in some of the things they did say.

Those who dream of an egalatarian human society seem well meaning people to me
But in their great wish for egalatarianism they overlook the reality
That people will never be equal for as long as there is poverty
And for as long as there is class distinction there cannot be equality.

No we will not have an egalatarian society for as long as Comparisons between people are made
For as long as our big brother tells us who does or does not make the grade
There are millions of people in the big World out there who bow to their king and their queen
For as long as we behave in this manner our own selves we only demean

We now have new laws of sedition that our Government introduced of late
For to speak ill of those in high places can be seen as a threat to the State
Your words can condemn you to prison or maybe even to a worse fate
For an egalatarian society it would seem we will have a very long wait.

The dunce of the school in the fifties that tag with me through life remain
It lives on as an unpleasant memory when my past comes to haunt me again
And things have not changed since the fifties there's a dunce of the school house today
And from an egalatarian society we even seem further away.

For As Long As I Can

For most the writing of verse is a hungry belly game
And far easier journeys to wealth and to fame
Than penning stuff you cannot give away never mind sell
And ignored by the literary critics as mere doggerel.

'Tis the literary critics who decide if you are a writer of note
If you have the right for to be called a poet
And though self praise is no praise some are known to say
Many introduce themselves as poets anyway.

Though many years now beyond my writing prime
I am one addicted to penning of rhyme
One might say i have written quite a lot of stuff
But sad to say for me not quite good enough

To be seen as a poet in the big World out there
Where poetasters are many and poets are so rare
And though most cannot be winners happens to be true
The dreams that you have are the dreams you pursue.

And though many may see it as a waste of time
To be addicted to penning of doggerel cannot be seen as a crime
And though many young people look on me as an old man
I will keep penning verse for as long as i can.

For As Long As I Can Live

The longest human life in time not a long span
So try to live on for as long as you can
For despite all this talk about Heaven and Hell
Of an Afterlife none have come back to tell
The millions of homeless the poor and downtrod
Are surely the children of the lesser God
Though many believe in the existence of this God in the sky
This is something I question but offhand cannot deny
I must be an agnostic I think in that way
And to the God of the Universe I never do pray
One reason I am in no hurry to die
But what is truthful to me to you may be a lie
My best days in life to the forever gone
But for as long as I can live I hope to live on.
