The Band Was Playing
The band was playing 'For Auld Lang Syne' and tears were in his eyes
And he felt far so far away midst all the joyous noise
He visualized the by gone days the seconds counted down
And they were singing Auld Lang Syne back home in Glasgow Town.
For Auld Lang Syne, For Auld Lang Syne by Scotland's best
loved poet
One of the very famous songs that Robert Burns wrote
In every Land around the World in every different tongue
The new year's anthem 'Auld Lang Syne' in every Country sung
The band was playing For Auld Lang Syne a beer can in his hand
And he was back in Glasgow Town back home in old Scotland
The music took him down the years back to the long ago
On new year's eve out on the town with kenny, Jock and Joe.
The woman standing next to him gave him a warm embrace
And there was laughter in her eyes and joy upon her face
A happy new year to you sir may all your dreams come true
May you be healthy, wealthy, wise and may God be with you.
At 12 a.m. the banners waved and the new year fanfare blew
And old year dead and buried now and welcome in the new
And greetings rung around the town happy new year to you
And people danced around the street and Jock was dancing too.

The Bard Of St Mel's
For twenty years the Parish priest of St Mel's in Narrandera Town
But that was not the reason why Patrick Hartigan won renown
He became famous as the poet nom de plume John O Brien
And the greatness of the reverend bard shone through in every line.
He helped to put Narrandera on the map in his poetic prime
And he still live in Australian literature in his distinctive rhyme
Said Hanrahan, Tangamalangaloo and The Old Mass Shandyran
Poetic gems that still live on from pen of bardic man.
And The Little Irish Mother she is still alive today
As she kneels on her kitchen floor with her family to pray
Many poems from his best known book Around the Booree log insures the author's fame
And in Australian literature his is still a household name.
Narrandera in New South Wales a Town known far and wide
It was there the great poet John O Brien for near three decades did reside
The childrens play ground by St Mel's in honour of his name
The poet is gone but long live the poet his verses are his fame.

The Bards Of Old Sliabh Luachra
The bards of old Sliabh Luachra made their own history
Their names will live for ever in literary immortality
Their names will surely live on for as long as rivers flow
And for as long as songbirds whistle in Spring on the hedgerow.
The great gaelic bard Aodhagan O Rathaille with him few to compare
his name has lived for many centuries that in itself seems rare
Since his time to the Cork and Kerry border many Seasons have come and gone
But the poet in his poems is living and his fame is living on.
Eoghan Rua O Suilleabhain from Meentogues better known as Eoin the Red
So much about the great man has been written and said
Rumour has it in verse he lampooned a farmer who re-acted angrily
And with his stick struck the poet a fatal blow at a fair in Knocknagree.
Patrick Dinneen the lexiographer of Dinneen dictionary fame
In Anglo Irish Literature his is a legendary name
Around the Cork and Kerry border they recall his name with pride
Since he too was of Sliabh Luachra that famous Countryside.
His brother Joe Dinneen the poet a character of his time
By the lives of other people he was inspired to rhyme
He died tragically at Headford Station under the wheels of a train
And memories of him to this day in Sliabh Luachra do remain.
The last bard of Sliabh Luachra was Ned Buckley of Knocknagree
Jack Lane the famed Aubane publisher has insured Ned's immortality
His book of poems a literary gem has been read World-wide
And greatness of the great Ned could never be denied.
The bards of old Sliabh Luachra their names will live forever more
Their fame has spread around the World far from Erin's green shore
Along with Sliabh Luachra's traditional musicians they are in Ireland's Cultural Hall of fame
For it's writers and musicians Sliabh Luachra's is a World known name.

The Barriers Of Class Distinction
The barriers of class distinction have never stood firmer 'twould seem
And of what it might feel to be wealthy so many don't bother to dream
The social gap it keeps on widening between the well off and the poor
And the middle class too doing nicely and very financially secure.
It is never easy to drag yourself up when you're down
If you happen to live in the wrong side of the town
And for every millionaire there is there are too many who
On their main meal of one glass of milk and on one slice of
bread have to do.
The barriers of class distinction are now so well in place
And the haves of this World are the privileged race
And they don't have a colour they are black, brown and white
And in war their children have not been known to fight.
The barriers of class distinction the classes divide
And of opportunity the poor have always been denied
And the rich getting richer and doesn't it seem unfair
That so many grow poorer for one millionaire.
