That Feeling Of Nostalgia
On gum tree branch the magpie is piping in the rain
And that strange feeling akin to sadness has come to me again
But it's not the magpie singing nor is it solitude
That causes me to lapse into this temporary mood.
Some call my mood nostalgia or call it what you may
But every time I see the rain I feel so far away
And I go back to Ireland to Ireland in the Spring
On garden tree in wind and rain the robin he did sing.
Where is that little robin that little redbreast now
Who sang outside my window on the green cypress bough?
Perhaps the Irish Winter claimed him before he grew too old
And his Springs were not too many he perished in the cold.
Why should I pine for Ireland what has Ireland done for me
Or is it just a human fault to love one's own Country?
But I'm not patriotic and for any Country I'd not die
I'd rather live and sing the praises of braver men than I.
The white backed Australian magpie pipes in the wind and rain
And that feeling of nostalgia sweeps over me again
And I am back in Ireland in Ireland miles away
And robin he is singing on a wet and windy day.

That Humans Can Be Cruel
That humans can be cruel is fact not a lie
Some men they shoot creatures just to watch them die
They lack in compassion and in empathy
Quite callous in their ways it does seem to me
Such ordinary people of them one can say
That they do not do a good deed every day
They shoot to kill life forms that run, hop or fly
Why are they so cruel I do ask myself why?
The creatures they kill few of them they do eat
They leave them for blow fly maggots as rotting meat
That the animals they shoot at happen to be rare
Does not seem to bother them they do not care
About the wild-born creatures that run hop or fly
They shoot them on the ground and shoot them from the sky.

That I Am Self Centred
That I am self centred I will not deny
But my flaws to others do also apply
Our lives do revolve around me, myself and I
And that's how we will be till the moment we die
What we dislike in others in our own selves we do see
But we are what we are that's how it seems to me
And though I am one who has walked on many a street
The near to perfect one I have yet for to meet,
The more ruthless are those who financially thrive
But without the selfish gene one would struggle to survive
Of the Unwritten Commandment of thine own self take care
So many it does seem are all too aware
But to those who to their higher self try to remain true
Respect and a whole pile of credit is due.

That Is All One Can Do
One can do their best that is all one can do and than that one cannot do much more
And one can only live for the present who knows what the future for us holds in store
If you are fair with other people and never harm one in any way
Then you are a successful person despite what some of you might say
If all were millionaires none would be paupers one's money does not prove one apart
From one who finds life a great battle 'tis better to be kind of heart
Than one who has got heaps of money and is cruel to his children and his wife
Than the material side there's far more to a person the good person lives a good life
One can give their best and best only and if the good life you pursue
Then you sow the seeds of good karma and good karma you will be due
You do your best to live a good life and that is all that anyone can do
For life it seems short even for those who live to one hundred and two,
So live a good life and be happy for who knows what tomorrow will bring
It only matters that you be a good person though others your praises don't sing.
