Your'e getting older
As the years go rolling by
and your age is getting high
do you often wonder why
you have a birthday
When you see your double chin
and your saggy looking skin
it's a worse state that your in
than on your first day
When your steps begin to falter
when you walk
And your teeth begin to wander
when you talk
Don't get into a rage
as life turns o'er the page
it's time to act your age
your'e getting older.

It's a river
When the time keeps passing and the world goes round
and the sea is crashing at the cliffs and the sounds
erupting as the seabirds cry, you can watch the river
as the time goes by
And it's like it's holy and it can be hell
and you feel so lonely and you fear the smell
of the guns that fire then you see the light
of a rainbow dawning and you realise
that the river's flowing as the time goes by
And you met the people and you knew them well
and you said you loved them and you rang the bell
in the tree of life you watched them grow
and the world is turning as the river flows
The earth smells good and the sky turns gold
when the birds are singing and you bless the old
you can kiss your woman and it feels so right
as you touch the river as the time goes by
As you stand barefoot upon the morning shore
and you feel the centuries of death and war
and the wind is biting and it tears your skin
and the river's flowing where its always been
And the river washes and the river's clean
and the soul remembers where the river's been
as you watch it tumble and you watch it flow
your life's a river now you know, now you know
your life's a river now you know.

Live in peace
It was a cold day when the rain came down
our life was just a hole in the ground
I tell you if there's a hell, then this was it
between our legs the rats would roam
try to get some sleep and they'd dropp a bomb
you never ate but somehow you felt sick
Then around a cigarette would pass
you took your draw it might be your last
there was no remorse for being knee deep in mud
and now and then you glanced the fence
its spiking barbs and body's drenched
the cuts and scars, the sweat and tears and blood
You can never forget that caustic smell
of the guns that fought their way to hell
or the hollow looking eyes that once were friends
you gazed upon their saddened smiles
though somehow never realised
they looked at you the way you looked at them
We knew it wouldn't be too long
till we moved off or just passed on
somebody told us we'd be going soon,
'There's a machine gun post just over the line,
We're going to take it so now's the time',
It sounded like picking flowers in the afternoon
And sure enough the whistle blew
the time had come for us we knew
over the top our party made the advance
we ran five yards and over the wire
we ran five more then heard the fire
the machine gun opened up, we had no chance
So here I lie in no mans land
with an empty pocket and gun in hand
yet it seems so peaceful with the battle all around
and as I watch the clouds go past
I wonder how long it will last
before returning to my old home town
It's a long time since that battle day
though I never made the big parade
let he who hasn't sinned cast the first stone
well it's missiles that we're casting now
a fact that doesn't make me proud
I'm the soldier in the grave that's marked unknown.

A sonnet of love.
Skin of creamed alabaster
lips of cherry balm trees
she looked like a Godess from antiquity
her smile like a halo
and voice of a dove
she walked like an Angel a symbol of love
small birds sweet with music surrounded her grace
the air seemed to whisper her name in a wish
the sun tugged at clouds to stay out of the shade
flowers would bow as she passed by their way
her robes seemed to flutter they wanted to dance
her rythm and movement held life in a trance
beauties not earthlike it comes from above
and sings with all nature a sonnet of love.
