  37.

When the lights go down tonight.

Ships are sailing back to harbour
breezes blowing them back home
village wives sit by the quayside
with a prayer for the unknown
silence falls like angels kisses
on the eyes that look for sight
of the boats that may be missing
when the lights go down tonight

On a hillside near the city
winter storms are closing in
snow comes down like falling starlight
as the farmers brace the wind
seeking out the strays and fallen
with a lantern by their side
hoping all is not forsaken
when the lights go down tonight

Mothers sitting by the fireside
children tucked up in their beds
lovers looking over photos
and the letters that were sent
in this world are many dangers
for the wrong and for the right
but one wish remains unspoken
when the lights go down tonight.

.Words.

These letters I write carry thoughts over oceans
scale mountains through forests they set themselves free
these stanzas speed out to all who will read them
ensuring they know they were written by me

It's easy informing you of lifes endeavours
thoughts hopes and feelings fill up every page
but just be aware I am only a writer
and these words of fiction are not what I say

It's simply my business to grip your emotions
as readers you wish that I should entertain
so hopefully you'll find I gave something to you
and I'd like to think that you'll read me again.

Agnes and Senga

Agnes and Senga
were born entwined
back in the summer
of June 69
everyone sighed
at these twin geminis
though Agnes was quiet
and Senga just cried

Though they were twins
they soon showed different tastes
Agnes liked some foods
that Senga would waste
into their teens
they would go different ways
as Senga liked nightime
Agnes liked day

Agnes was happy
content with her life
Senga was boisterous
and got into fights
Agnes wore colours
that brightened her day
Senga was sombre
and wore mostly grey

Agnes got married
and thought it was bliss
Senga stayed single
and gave men a miss
Agnes got pregnant
and was overjoyed
Senga was happy
she had little boys

Back in the summer
of June 96
Noel and Leon
were born to Agnes
everyone sighed
at these twin geminis
though Noel was quiet
and Leon just cried.

Dragons have to live somewhere

Sir Knight of words
was quite disturbed
he thought he slew the dragon
they both fought hard
for hours and hours
and now he started flagging
he tried to lance it from his steed
but still he couldn't quite succeed
then fought it with his sword and shield
but still the dragon wouldn't yield

He ran back to his castle gates
for something bigger, better
and there he met his sweet soulmate
the Lady of the letters
she whispered this sweet maiden fair
to go back to the dragon's lair
and treat him gently and with care
for dragons have to live somewhere.
