Growing Up

So once again I'm fighting the duplicity in me
Once again I'm struggling, trying only to see
That if I close my eyes then I'll always have you
A girl that I can love, not just a body to 'do'

No, this year I didn't get to write on my birthday
But it's a blessing, as I've nothing sad to say
I woke up in your arms and wressled you softly
Then we chose a pub and a film to go and see

It was a good day I spoke to most of my friends
I was too drunk, and as usual I left before the night ends
And to be honest I prefered the Sunday we spent
Making pizzas, watching tele, opening the cards I was sent

So why then, once again, am I getting mixed up
Flirting with girls I know I could never love
Surely now I have you, this should be so easy
But still I can't help think how she could please me

Twenty six and in love
But I still need to grow up
I'm twenty six and in love
But I still need to grow up

Hanging Up

Waking up and stepping out, I realise
'When did it get so cold' I said
But you never replied

Shutting down and hanging up, I'm finished
'When did the day sink' you said
And I never replied

All the traffic drifts away
Across the fields it floats away
And in the sky there are no stars
Like so much, now they're burnt out
I pointed up...
but you never looked

'Will it be like this forever' you said
I didn't care and didn't say
Just waiting for the lights to change
You turned away and watched the world
'We're not a part of it anymore'
But I never replied

Waking up and setting out, I realise
'There's nothing else to say' I said
You laughed… as you left

Switching off and zoning out, I'm finished
'Where did the summer go' you asked
But I never replied

Now in the sky there are no stars
Like so much(!) now they're burnt out
I pointed up...
But you never looked...

'It's never going to change' you said
And I've never laughed so hard...

Haunted of Winter

Walking together
Gasping for kisses
Between each breath
The perfectionist's kiss
While you stare at the boats
Floating for their lives
On waters of winter
We walk for our lives
Down walk-ways of winter

These broken roads, these buildings
This ice and my memories
Remember, please remember me
When you were a girl
We hid in leaves; in love
In Summer's jaw, we hung
And lay in hay; in love

Now snow-covered fields dream,
And farm gates reminisce
Of our previous passion here
Empty branches, lonely trees
Hang their arms above, in awe
Of all they've seen before
In you and me; before

When it's this cold
On these white hills
The loss-less valleys drawl
The frozen streams stutter slow
All lost control of everything
Beautifully wild, gorgeously bleak
Friends are only ever found in heat
Here only solitude resides

Yet, walking together
Paying for kisses
I repay in missing heartbeats
The debtor's kiss
While you earn every cell in you
Dividing for their lives
By the haunted of winter
As we talk for our lives
By the walk-ways of winter

These falling bricks, these buildings
This chill and my memories
Believe, please believe in me
When I was I boy
I hid behind a wall, so tall
Cupped in deceit’s sweet fist
And lay in lies, so tall

Now tongues no longer care to lie
They wag in truths so wide
No more make-believe scenes
No more roaming dreams in me
That girl is now the woman I hold
That I never care to leave again
That boy is not the man you crush
In hugs so tight they scream of love

Head Down, Think Small

The smaller I think; the further I get
From achieving
From believing
Anything, anymore
So now I just drink and talk small
With people I don't love
With no distance to fall
Leave the big things out of reach of me
Like medicines
Like hot irons
No I won't reach up for
Anything, anymore

Just let the Winter spread
Just let the snow fall
...Cover everything
It's all white again
I'm absolved of duty
And nothing is questioned
Nothing is analysed
Anymore
Now I only think small...
