The 'Job'
Rising before the sun, eyes still so heavy
can't sleep any longer, it is time to get ready.
Throw on his uniform, boots, and hat
get mentally ready for possible combat.
A million thoughts race thru his mind
trying to stay focused and not fall behind.
Everyday a new mission to complete the same goal
every second of the day tests his mind, heart and soul.
Before he knows it the sun has come and gone
his body feeling the effects of being up before dawn.
His long day is paused just long enough for a rest
a few hours of sleep is all he will get - at best.
He does not complain - this is what he was meant to do
a Soldier at heart, lest we forget he is still human too.
He can feel the aches of his muscles and the pain in his heart
from doing what he loves while this war tears him apart.
He aches for his family and the ones that he loves
he prays for all of them to the Big Man above.
It is the emotional ache that never leaves his heart
Does a Soldier that's witnessed war ever have a fresh start?
That question is the one that haunts him each day
the answer that he seeks every time that he prays.
It is an inner voice he hears that gets him thru
it whispers loudly 'I am here with you'.
He knows it is God and he pulls strength from his soul
to finish one more mission - to finish the goal.
He is a hero to most, but just a man in his mind
the Soldier in him makes him one of a kind.
Pray for our soldiers each and every one
Remember that their 'job' is never done!
