A Soldier
There is discipline in A Soldier
you can see it when he walks,
There is honor in A Soldier
you hear it when he talks.
There is courage in A Soldier
you can see it in his eyes,
There is loyalty in A Soldier
that he will not compromise.
There is something in A Soldier
that makes him stand apart,
There is strength in A Soldier
that beats from his heart.
A Soldier isn't a title any man
can be hired to do,
A Soldier is the soul of that man
buried deep inside of you.
A Soldier's job isn't finished after
an 8 hour day or a 40 hour week,
A Soldier is always A Soldier
even while he sleeps.
A Soldier serves his country first
and his life is left behind,
A Soldier has to sacrifice what
comes first in a civilian's mind.
If you are civilian -
I am saying this to you.....
next time you see A Soldier
remember what they do.
A Soldier is the reason our land
is 'Home of the free',
A Soldier is the one that is brave
protecting you and me.
If you are A Soldier -
I am saying this to you.....
Thank God for EVERY SOLDIER
Thank God for what YOU do!

Did I tell you?
Did I tell you that I am deeply in love with you? Because I am
More than you know, more than I planned
Did I tell you that I miss you terribly? Because I do
Every time that I see someone and it is not you
Did I tell you that I will always need you? Because I will
Without you by my side - my heart, my life stands still
Did I tell you that you are all that I think of? Because it's true
Thinking of the yesterdays keeps me closer to you
Did I tell you that you are all I will ever want? Because you are
You came into my life and captured my heart
Did I tell you all the things I feel for you? Because I want you to Know
That I feel them deeply every second, even when it doesn't show
Never let us lose the memories of us, the love that we feel
Never let the emptiness we have when we're apart heal
Always listen to your heart - it will tell you what it needs
And allow your feet to follow wherever that may lead
So, read this today - but always keep it in your heart
and let it guide you back to me when we're far apart

Innocence Lost
The sadness I see while I am here
a life of struggle, loss, hate and fear.
I was lucky to be American born
unlike these children whose lives are torn.
They are raised in a world of fighting and pain
where bullets and shrapnel spread like rain.
Playing outside with a friend or a brother
could end in death and screams from a mother.
The look in their eyes isn't careless and free
it isn't of playing games and climbing trees.
It is a look of intensity, sadness and fear
a look I've never seen in a child until I came here.
I want to save these children that haven't a choice
but to live in a world like theirs without a loud enough voice.
It is easy to blame them for the adult life they are living
but what choice do they have, it is the life they are given.
They are born into this life that isn't free
they pay with their lives or learn to live what they see.
I can't imagine the pain they feel from their start
I wish I could erase the scars from their hearts.
So many questions I have, the first being why
Why have a child that your raising to die?
You honor a belief more than a daughter or son
that is the message when the killings are done.
I pray for the soul of that child that became the adult
from the life they were given it isn't their fault.
Everyday I am here it is a lesson to me
I thank God I am from the 'Land of the Free'.

The 'Job'
Rising before the sun, eyes still so heavy
can't sleep any longer, it is time to get ready.
Throw on his uniform, boots, and hat
get mentally ready for possible combat.
A million thoughts race thru his mind
trying to stay focused and not fall behind.
Everyday a new mission to complete the same goal
every second of the day tests his mind, heart and soul.
Before he knows it the sun has come and gone
his body feeling the effects of being up before dawn.
His long day is paused just long enough for a rest
a few hours of sleep is all he will get - at best.
He does not complain - this is what he was meant to do
a Soldier at heart, lest we forget he is still human too.
He can feel the aches of his muscles and the pain in his heart
from doing what he loves while this war tears him apart.
He aches for his family and the ones that he loves
he prays for all of them to the Big Man above.
It is the emotional ache that never leaves his heart
Does a Soldier that's witnessed war ever have a fresh start?
That question is the one that haunts him each day
the answer that he seeks every time that he prays.
It is an inner voice he hears that gets him thru
it whispers loudly 'I am here with you'.
He knows it is God and he pulls strength from his soul
to finish one more mission - to finish the goal.
He is a hero to most, but just a man in his mind
the Soldier in him makes him one of a kind.
Pray for our soldiers each and every one
Remember that their 'job' is never done!
